about

This song is in part inspired by my friend AAl’s many renditions of his song “I Don’t Wanna Do My Laundry,” and in part by Merlin Mann’s 43Folders and David Allen’s Getting Things Done.

I still procrastinate, but for once I got all my work done at a decent hour today, and celebrated with the creation of this song. Please, let’s everybody just pretend that I’m actually in key.

lyrics

Three hours earlier I had awoken, I talked to my friend and he said,
“What the hell are you doing up, man? You should go back to bed.”
Spoke to him later and he said he’d had the most incredible productive day,
I said “Damn you, you bastard, I spent mine just hitting the hay.”

Why do I procrastinate?
Why must I food masticate?
I don’t know.

I spent loads on money on software and books that all said they would help me to cope,
But a house full of books just made me feel like more of a dope.

Why must I procrastinate?
Why are my flaws so innate?
I don’t know.

Calgon, take me away!
You Keebler elves are so productive, it disgusts me!

I spoke to the guru, his name was Merlin, and he showed me how to Get Things Done,
And I thought that the battle was finally just about won.
I set up these folders and carry a notebook around with me all of the time,
But I still have my troubles and slide back downhill on the climb.

Why must I procrastinate?
I want to breathe and create!
I don’t know.
I don’t know.

I don’t wanna do my laundry,
I don’t want to do my laundry,
I don’t want to do my laundry,
But the laundry must be done.
